Wildland is proud to have been able to work in partnership with Historic Environment Scotland on the restoration of Castle Varrich in Tongue.

We are pleased to have been able to support the local community – that we now see ourselves as being a part of – and are happy to have been able to contribute to the funding for the addition of a new viewing platform within this ancient structure. The new platform provides superb views across the Kyle of Tongue and is a benefit of the whole of the village and, of course, all of those that visit every year.

The restoration originally came about because we were keen to see a much-loved local landmark protected and brought back into use and Wildland has arranged a short event at the castle to ‘officially’ mark the completion of the project.

We are honoured that the Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop, has agreed to join a group of children from Tongue Primary School to celebrate the occasion.

Photographs from the ceremony dedicating the new structure for the use of the community are featured below.
