Before we all came to rely so heavily on our Macs and PCs for pretty much every aspect of our lives, these images of some original computers are quite haunting, simply because of their purpose.
Made in the 1950s and 60s, these ‘computers’, or slide-rules, they reveal a time when the fear of nuclear attack was a daily concern for the Cold War generation. Depicting calculations such as radiation dosage, the quite complex calculators are actually quite beautiful in their intricacy.
Have a look at them using the magnifier to see them in all their glory.
